team spotlight | SARA
I have been wanting to show more behind the scenes of Christina Kober Designs and I thought the best way would be to first introduce you to our team. The CKD team is amazing. We are close-knit group that sometimes feels more like a family than a business - a great mix of dynamic, dedicated and talented women, that bring different backgrounds and experiences to build a very strong team.
In our Team Spotlight series, I will be introducing you to our team one at a time. I am so excited to share who we are, the team that brings Christina Kober Designs to life. We are the people who handstamp, solder and polish your jewelry, the ones that answer your questions, and the ones that package up your orders with love. My hope is that you will see more of what makes us who we are, what drives us, and connect to our stories of what inspires us.
For the seventh installment of our “Team Spotlight” series I am introducing you to Sara! Sara is the newest member of the Christina Kober Designs family and she immediately fit right in. She is wonderfully passionate, eager to learn, and super considerate. She always has great stories to tell and we can count on her to give honest advice. Hearing her joyous laugh, you can’t help but join in.
Now, I'd like to introduce you to Sara!
What do you do at Christina Kober Designs?
I am a production jeweler
What does your typical day at CKD look like?
I get to play with fire, pound on metal, and turn it into beautiful, sparkly little pieces of art! It's the best!
What is something you think most people don’t know about handmade jewelry?
Finishing up the piece is the most time consuming and physically demanding part of the process. Most of us have calluses and burned off a fingerprint or two! But, the end result is well worth it.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Nature, architecture, art, love… just about everything can, under the right circumstances.
What does a “treat yourself” day look like to you?
A day on the water…by boat or float… and swimming until my muscles are sore. Then tapas and a glass on wine on an outdoor deck.
WHAT IS THE BEST GIFT YOU’VE EVER RECEIVED?
My mom paid for me to go through an intensive jewelers program. It changed my life. She is awesome ❤!
WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU ARE WELL KNOWN FOR AROUND THE STUDIO?
Apparently, I say some funny things. I'm not very good at holding back when I am passionate about something.
You have great taste in music! Who are your top three favorite artists/bands? And what’s the coolest concert you’ve ever been to?
My favorite artists change about every 8 hours, but, some current favs are Eagles of Dead Metal, Jack White and Alabama Shakes… but I could add about 20 others.
I grew up in Seattle during the grunge scene, so I was able to see a lot of great bands. Probably my favorite show was the 1993 Lollapalooza lineup… Primus, Alice in Chains, L7, Rage Against the Machine. 1992 was even better, but I was stuck home sick in bed… crying my eyes out, lol.
You make your own beauty products, which is awesome! How did you get into doing that and what are the benefits of making them on your own versus buying them in-store?
Despite being in my 40’s, I have always had problems with breakout issues partially due to allergies. I was spending TONS of money on skincare. My first recipe just started out as just something to try, but I had so much fun doing it that I decided to go all out. Now I make my own face oil, serums, moisturizers, lip balm, bug spray, deodorant, toothpaste and vapo-rub….plus household soaps and cleaners. You could say that I am a bit obsessed.
What is your favorite CKD piece and why?
I love the new long diamond dusted adjustable rings. It is so fun how they can be stacked with the other adjustables. Plus, they sparkle!
Ok, now time for a little quick fire….
Gold, silver, or rose gold?
Ooooh… hard question. Silver, if it is by itself. But, if I can mix and match, I’d go with all three. From a jewelers perspective, gold is the most fun to work with.
Diamond dusted or Inspired?
Always the sparkles!
Savory or sweet?
Definitely savory.
Receiving gifts or giving gifts?
There is nothing that feels better than giving.
Simple or Layered?
Stacked rings, but simple chains for me. Unfortunately, jewelers should remove their rings while working. We get messy!
Wide ring or Narrow ring?
I love the wide, but narrow looks better on me.
Coffee or tea?
Coffee… then matcha!
Dog or cat?
I love both, but more of a dog person. I am allergic to cats.
INSTAGRAM OR FACEBOOK?
I prefer Instagram, but it is still new to me.
SUMMER OR WINTER?
Summer, unless there is a good downhill skiing slope!
NEUTRALS OR COLORS?
Colors...plus black… and white, lol.
