SPRUILL CENTER FOR THE ARTS is a community art center located in Dunwoody, GA that provides access to the arts through classes and workshops, events, and fine art exhibitions.
This is the school where I began taking jewelry classes as an adult and never looked back. It is a wonderful community of creatives and hope to see you in a class or two.
BEGINNING JEWELRY & METALSMITHING
Fridays, 10am - 1pm
From September 25, 2026 through December 4, 2026*
Learn the basic techniques of jewelry fabrication and metalsmithing by making pieces such as bracelets, pendants, and rings. Students will learn soldering with a torch, piercing, finishing, forming, forging, and bezel stone setting. For beginners, THE FIRST CLASS IS MANDATORY. There will be NEW PROJECTS each quarter! All necessary tools are provided.
Material Fee: Students will need to purchase their own metal, which may cost up to $150. Supplies will be discussed further during the first class.

MAKE & MARKET | BUILDING A COLLECTION THAT'S YOURS

A collection isn't just a group of pieces — it's a point of view. This class helps you find yours.
Bring completed pieces and works in progress — whatever represents where your work is right now. Sketchbooks welcome and encouraged. Through conversation and hands-on design exploration, we'll look at what you already have and shape it into a cohesive line that sounds like you — not anyone else.
Whether you're eyeing craft shows, galleries, wholesale, online, or all of the above, we'll cover what makes a collection cohesive, how to price your work, and what it actually takes to get in the door. We'll also explore ways to work more efficiently — because the business side shouldn't swallow the making side.
This class is the bridge between making jewelry you love and building a collection the market can connect with.

THE FINISH LINE | A FINISHING INTENSIVE

Finishing is one of the most overlooked skills in jewelry making — and one of the most important. A poorly finished piece can lower the perceived value of something you poured hours into. It can leave sharp edges, uncomfortable wear, and a dull result that doesn't reflect the maker behind it. In professional studios, the polishers are often among the highest paid. There's a reason for that.
In this one-day intensive, we'll pull back the curtain on the full finishing process — because yes, jewelry is a dirty business, and pieces get pretty ugly before they're ready to wear. That's not a problem. That's just the process. And once you understand it, everything changes.
We'll cover finishing textures, the tools and equipment you need and how to use them, hand finishing, flexshaft techniques, and polishing — and just as importantly, how to know which approach is right for your project.
You'll work on practice pieces throughout the day, building muscle memory and confidence in a process that too many makers learn too late.

GET LIT | A SOLDERING INTENSIVE

What if soldering stopped being the thing that slows you down?
Most jewelers learn soldering by doing — picking it up as they go, developing habits that work until they don't. This one-day intensive is a chance to step back, dig into the why behind the technique, and come out the other side with more control, more confidence, and fewer mysteries.
We'll work with silver, copper, and gold-filled, and cover gold soldering in discussion. Along the way we'll break down two common torch types — acetylene/air and oxy-propane — explore the properties of different metals and when each torch makes sense, and move through techniques including pick soldering, sweat soldering, and more. We'll also cover setup: heat sinks, controlling solder flow, and the tools that make the whole process easier.
No finished pieces in this class — just focused, intentional practice. Because sometimes the most productive day at the bench is the one where you only do one thing, and you do it until it clicks.

FLUSH SETTING 101

Have you ever wanted to add faceted stones to your work but didn’t know where to start? Flush setting is one of the best ways to dive right in! My straight-forward technique includes simple steps that require accuracy and practice - all that you get in this workshop. I will show you each step, discussing why each one is important and go through common roadblocks and their solutions. You will not only learn how to flush-set, but you will practice with me and receive one-on-one feedback, troubleshooting tips and tricks to make sure you are successful.While this workshop focuses on the building blocks flush setting – you will also learn about various burs and how to use them, using precision measuring tools, using a loupe properly, how to make your own setting tools that aren’t available commercially, selecting the right materials and tools for the job, and tips on production setting. I'm not gonna lie, this is one of those techniques that takes some practice, but I have a ton of tips and tricks up my sleeves and I’m ready and waiting for you to learn about one of my favorite jewelry techniques.
